Intentional Asymmetry: Two Boats in Morro Bay
Some of the most compelling compositions are the ones that break the rules. This photograph, taken in my hometown of Morro Bay, is a perfect example. While many photographers strive for perfect balance, I was drawn to the un-symmetrical composition of this scene.
What makes this image work for me is the contrast in its placement. The bright, white boat is centered in the frame, drawing your eye immediately to its classic lines. But the other boat, placed off to the side, creates a subtle tension and a sense of movement. This deliberate imbalance makes the photo more dynamic and visually interesting.
This image is a tribute to the idea that art doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. It’s a celebration of asymmetry and a reminder that sometimes, the most striking compositions are the ones that are a little bit off-kilter.
