Reflecting on a Perfect Morning
Some photographs just have that perfect blend of timing and technique, and this one is definitely a favorite of mine. It’s a shot I took on an early morning somewhere overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and the entire image is a testament to the power of a perfect reflection.
The real story in this photo is the sky, captured as a mirror on the surface of the water. The clouds, the light—it’s all perfectly doubled, creating a stunning sense of symmetry and a feeling of profound tranquility. I used a shutter speed of 1 second with my Nikon D610 and 35mm Sigma lens to ensure the water’s surface was as smooth and glassy as possible. This long exposure was key to bringing out the intricate details of the cloudscape both above and below the horizon.
