Rays of Light: Silhouettes on the Slough
There is a moment just as the sun dips below the horizon when the world seems to pause, and the light becomes a performance. Captured over the Montezuma Slough, this photograph, “Rays of Light,” is a dramatic study in contrast and atmosphere.
My primary goal was always to capture the strength and simplicity of a silhouette. By shooting directly into the setting sun, the wind turbines are stripped of color, transforming them into sharp, graphic icons of power against a tumultuous, golden sky. The single ray of light breaking through the cloud cover is a fleeting gift—a signature moment that elevates the industrial landscape into something ethereal.
The reflected glow on the water below anchors the scene, balancing the immense drama of the sky. This is more than a photograph; it’s a testament to finding beauty in the stark intersection of nature and human engineering.
