Where the Sky Meets the “Green River”
This photograph isn’t just a landscape; it’s a feeling, a song, and a moment captured in time. It’s a shot of Putah Creek in Solano County, a place so iconic it inspired a legendary song—Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Green River.”
What drew me to this particular scene was the dramatic contrast between the elements. The sky, heavy and moody with gray clouds, creates an atmosphere of somber power. Yet, in stark opposition, the river below is a picture of tranquility. I used a long exposure—a shutter speed of 1 second—to capture the smooth, almost ethereal flow of the water. This technique highlights the gentle, mellow trickling of the creek, making it feel like the calm heart of a stormy landscape.
The juxtaposition of the turbulent sky and the peaceful water tells a powerful story.
